Graciosa is one of the 9 islands that form the archipelago of Açores and belongs to the so-called central group, alongside Terceira, São Jorge, Pico and Faial. Although it is rarely considered a top destination we feel the underdog tends to surprise and Graciosa is no exception. After all it can't be called Gracious by chance!
Below we write about some cool and curious aspects about this island so hit "Read More" to find out which they are.
We've once again come up with a "When to Go Where" as we have done in the past couple of years. For each month of 2020 we selected a destination in Portugal which for some reason we feel is just perfect. Read this post if you are in need of some travelling inspo.
In the last couple of years Comporta has been on the bucket list for many travellers who choose Portugal as their holiday destination. This small coastal town marries the best of the beach and the countryside and has a lot going on in its favour, such as beaches with long stretches of sand, delicious gastronomy, adorable little houses and stylish retreats. During off peak season it is an even more peaceful and inspiring destination. In fact, one of the best times of the year to visit is Winter, when silence, desert beaches, fresh fish and wide golden rice fields can sum it up.
When the weather is grey and cold, there's nothing better than sitting in a warm cosy place, armed with a hot cup of coffee and a good book. We’ve dedicated this month’s second journal post to coffee shops (cafés, in Portuguese) and bookstores.
We understand long holidays are usually taken during Summer when warm sunny weather is a given. However, travelling during off peak season has its perks: there are no crowds, the hotel fares are cheaper and the destination is sure to be more authentic.
Plus with the undeniable climate change winter is no longer a marked colder and harsher season, particular near the coast. With an average of 300 days of sun and mild temperatures, our country is a delightful destination during winter time as well. Here we picked a few destinations that have a special charm during Winter.
August is obviously the busiest time of the year in terms of tourism. However there are still some islands in the archipelago of Açores that are relatively unknown and worth exploring even during peak season. That's why we elected Flores and Corvo as our August 2019 destination! These islands belong to the western group and are the ones located further away from Portugal mainland. Find out why we feel they're a great retreat to unplug from the frantic city pace and connect with nature and a simpler day-to-day life.
This is the ultimate aim: achieve a balanced life.
We need to juggle family, friends, work, exercise, meditation (and so on) without loosing it. The trick is establishing the priorities, defining the goals with achievable timmings and working inside out towards them in a conscientious manner. With enough time to reflect, evaluate and humility to recognise our flaws there is always room to improve.
Below are some ideas to ease the mind and (re)gain quality of life, all attainable whilst enjoying our beautiful country.
