COSTA VICENTINA

Picture
Most travellers go to the Algarve south coast, where the sea is calmer and warmer and the temperature almost never disappoints. Here we tell you about the west coast of Algarve, the Costa Vicentina Natural Park. It expands through the west coast starting at the St. Vincent Cape in Sagres (the most southwestern point of Europe) to the Alentejo Southwest coast, which is part of the same Natural park.
This is a protected area, managing to keep its pure and authentic feel. The landscape is beautiful with high cliffs, extensive sand areas and a lively ocean. It is mostly warm during the day but usually gets chilly at night, even in the summertime.

The entire west coast is filled with beautiful wild beaches, some considered to be amongst the most beautiful in the world. The best is to choose one of the many fantastic places to stay at and explore the region by car and foot.
If you look for relaxing days lying on the beach, we suggest you do the way we locals do – take the car and enjoy a different beach every day.
Surf is the main activity in the region and you can feel it everywhere.  It is the perfect place to try it.

Costa Vicentina is also home to some of the best hiking routes in Portugal.
The Rota Vicentina route includes more than 400 km walking trails, including the Fisherman’s trail that follows through the entire park coast, offering stunning views. There are a few circular day or half day routes that could provide a brief introduction to the longest ones.
Be aware that in the summertime temperatures are very high and not ideal for hiking  during the peak of the day.

And on top of all the above, this area has some of the best seafood in the country, next to the best views. You can taste it at plenty of restaurants and beach terraces and never be disappointed.
Expect a laid back informal vibe with many lovely rustic country houses to stay at.

Faro is the closest airport.
